Micah: Progress Report

Micah got a preschool progress report yesterday. He is doing really well! I chatted with his teacher a little bit because I was wondering whether he’s been acting out at all at school. He has been doing that here at home, and I think it is an expression of his grief at leaving the only home he ever knew. Ms Tamara said that he has not been acting out there, which is good. She told me that he is doing well academically, but socially he’s still finding his feet. He needs quite a bit of direction, as in, “Micah, go play with Dylan now.” And she said that Micah sticks pretty close with her. But this all sounds quite understandable and so we’ll just acknowledge it and keep an eye on it.

So back to the report card. She noted a cute thing that Micah said. I guess when Ms Tamara asked Micah if he knows his birthday, he replied, “On Saturday I am turning 20.” He is so great. To him, tomorrow and Saturday are synonymous. And I guess being 20 is cool.

She also made notes that he was especially good at the following:

- Counting, all the way to 29!

- Using scissors

- Tracing

- Grasping a pencil (both Eva and Micah have held writing instruments correctly without being explicitly taught… interesting)

- Politeness

- Accepting responsibility, following class rules and routines.

Her final comments:

Micah is very warm and bright little boy; his smile is addicting! I am very pleased with his continuous progress and willingness to learn. Keep up the fantastic work Micah!

Micah is a very sociable, charismatic and likeable kid. I’m sure his social skills will improve in a sec.
